Montgomery College provides DUO Security to help students, faculty, and staff protect themselves from cyber crimes. DUO Security adds another layer of security by enabling you to set up a second factor of authentication (phone, key fob, or other mobile device) with your account that prevents anyone but you from logging in, even if that person happens to know your password. Once you have enrolled, you will be able to deny access to your accounts (on your DUO-enrolled device) if someone tries to sign in as you.
Duo is required for all students, faculty, and staff to access most MC Services.
Enrollment and Instructions
To begin the enrollment process with DUO:
Visit any MC service which uses single-sign-on (SSO) service (Ex: Workday, Microsoft 365, MyMC) It will prompt you to enroll for DUO.

Options available for employees and students:
- "Send Me a Push" - using DUO mobile app on your smart phone, the system pushes a login request to your phone or tablet. This is the preferred method for using two-factor authentication. The app is available to iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile.
The app offers the DUO push and passcode functionalities and the app can be used with or without data/WiFi (use passcode option when no data/WiFi is available).
- "Enter a Passcode" - the system can generate a passcode generated by DUO Mobile app (preferred), SMS (less preferred), or key FOB. We recommend using the SMS option as a backup method in the event the app is not working properly.
This option is available only to users who do not have access to a smartphone:
- If neither the app, text message, nor a phone call is practical, a Hardware Key FOB can be issued that provides a unique code at each login. To request a Hardware Key Fob, fill out the DUO Key Fob Form form and submit a request with the form attached.
Types of Devices Used
If you have multiple devices, it is recommended that you enroll more than one device, so you have a backup in case of emergency. You may add as many devices as you like to your account: The following devices can be enrolled with DUO:
- iPhone
- Android
- Generic cell phones
- Tablets
- U2F Authenticators (i.e. YubiKey)
- Hardware Token (contact IT Service Desk if mobile devices are not available)
*FOR USERS WHO DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A SMARTPHONE: If you do not have access to a smartphone, we recommend that you request a hardware key fob (FOB) by submitting a ticket.
Keep in mind that you will need your registered device near you at any time you would wish to log in to self-service, workday, VPN, or any other service that provides sensitive information.
